AMY POPE

Candidature campaign for General Secretary at the IOM

Background

Before joining the International Organization of Migration (IOM) Amy Pope served as the Senior Advisor on Migration to US President Biden and as the Deputy Homeland Security Advisor to President Obama. While at the White House, Ms. Pope developed and implemented comprehensive strategies to address migration in areas such as countering trafficking in persons, resettling refugees, and vulnerable people, and preparing communities to respond and adapt to climate-related crises. Amy has also occupied positions at the US Department of Justice and US Senate and was a Partner in the London-based law firm, Schillings.

Brief

It had always been a lifelong ambition of Amy’s to become Secretary General of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), so when the US Mission approached me in joining them in mounting a creative communications campaign

I was naturally delighted. My brief was to devise a strong graphic identity for Amy’s campaign with the use of a powerful and identifiable colour scheme and design architecture. It had to translate well across a variety of marketing communications assets, from brochures to business cards, social media cards and a campaign video. A 12-page brochure was the signature piece at the heart of the campaign. I devised a modern landscape format applying Helvetica Neue bold and regular as the font of choice. Colour-wise we opted for a strong turquoise as the main signature colour which is used throughout the brochure as a transparent overlay on images. The photography is powerful and documentary in style and works well across the landscape format. We also devised a branding device that could be used as a motif and employed on the back of the brochure and other material as further reinforcement.
